Gray storm clouds compete with the sun on a cold Friday morning.
Eventually the sun wins.
Saturday morning sunrise. I am there to share it with the crows. The air is crisp as I take this photo. I am up on a hill and the frigid wind causes my eyes to water and fingers to ache from cold. I am up so high the sun never seems to make it over the horizon, the vivid red I long to see never comes my way. The extended daylight hours are playing tricks on me. The sunrise of last week is not the sunrise of today. One must get up earlier to catch that vivid red
and the birth of a new day.
Saturday afternoon blue skies. The sun warms up the earth and melting snow form tiny rivers of water against the rocky earth. I soak it all in and stare at the sky searching for life. A hawk soars riding the thermal waves the naked eye can't see. The crows follow yelling their outrage. Eventually the waves glide the hawk over the horizon and into peaceful solitude.

Such pretty photos this morning. We have been seeing a lot of hawks floating high in the sky this past week.
Lovely skywatch post/photos! We get hawks too, but have an owl this week in our neighborhood :)
Our skies, like yours change frequently. Lovely Skywatch photos.
It was a good week, wasn't it! Today on Cape Ann, we are socked in with rain. :(
I'm digging the blue-sky hawks shot. Why? Not just because it is a fun image, but it means that the hawk migration is on! Spring is coming, I promise. (Our song sparrow is singing again.)
You did a great job capturing different moods and colors of the sky.
I loved all the different skies you shot - the sunrise was my favorite. A beautiful beginning to the day!!
Wonderfu photographs. We appreciate your getting out so early in such cold weather.
These images of the landscape are beautiful.
I browsed through your archives and noticed that you have a wide variety of bird sightings.
Happy birding...Thomas
I'm with Steve...love those hawk shots!
Great series of skies, especially with the birds. Nobody does "outrage" better than a corvid!!
Great photos, Kim... Your descriptions telling about how cold it was on that morning were excellent. Made me feel as if i was right there with you!!!! Brrrrr...
Great pictures!!! Thanks!
Hugs,
Betsy
Nice series!
My Sky Watch photo is at

I am glad the sun won out. Good sky watch.
Beautiful photos and words! Happy SWF. :)
You certainly have nice sky color and there are birds in it. None around here today. I think it might be too cold.
I thought I would try SkyWatch again. Not sure how far I will get before I tire out but will give it a try.
My Skywatch Post
Great series of shots. I'm glad the sun won out.
Nice narrative as well as some gorgeous photos. And yes, the character of sunrise changes dramatically from day to day -- even minute to minute when the disc clears the horizon.
Nice shooting regardless!
Kallen: I'm so glad to see your progression to a sunny day. The hawks on wing are really neat.
Beautiful photos and I am so glad you had a beautiful Saturday.
Smiles
Great sky shots. I particularly liked the sunrise glow.
How the sky can change from dull to gorgeous always amazes me.
What a great blog! Found it through skywatch, but I shall look in regularly!
I love the yellow along the trees. I sit and look at the sky when it looks like it. It is beautiful to look at.
Your skies are full of promise and your February yard list is much longer than mine!
These are just so very lovely.
I like your gradual merge of greys to blue and clear skies.. very nicely done!!!
Take care,

I love the morning skies you've captured here - the colors are fantastic! I saw on your side bar, "Falcon Sightings" That's so cool - I don't think we have them here! When I was little, I remember seeing a few eagles - but not anymore! I wonder why?!!
Lovely skies! I love watching crows harass hawks, they do make such a ruckus!
Oh I love the different skies you posted. Thanks for sharing.
Nice series...and anything with birds is great...
Beautiful shots!
Ah, dontcha just love it when the sun wins? :) Thanks for the smile!

I like the sunrise and the birds best!
Beautiful sequence of skies! I especially like the last one with the hawks.
Beautiful set of photos. love the last one for sure
I've been seeing lots of hawks here in Arizona too lately. Thanks for sharing.
When the weather changes like this it is just fun - but the other way around...
Interesting colors in your cloudy skies...and then a beautiful sunrise!
(Thanks for stopping by and commenting!)
It seems there was more solar to be seen all around this week. I like your progression!
I love how you show the sequence of the sky!
Beautiful! :)
Great sky shots. The birds in the above post are really great too. Love those closeups.
Beautiful sky photos!! Amazing battle of clouds vs. sun!
Happy SWF!
Very pretty skies! I especially love the sunset - beautiful!
