Skywatch Friday-From Gray to Blue

Gray storm clouds compete with the sun on a cold Friday morning.

Eventually the sun wins.

Saturday morning sunrise. I am there to share it with the crows. The air is crisp as I take this photo. I am up on a hill and the frigid wind causes my eyes to water and fingers to ache from cold. I am up so high the sun never seems to make it over the horizon, the vivid red I long to see never comes my way. The extended daylight hours are playing tricks on me. The sunrise of last week is not the sunrise of today. One must get up earlier to catch that vivid red
and the birth of a new day.
Saturday afternoon blue skies. The sun warms up the earth and melting snow form tiny rivers of water against the rocky earth. I soak it all in and stare at the sky searching for life. A hawk soars riding the thermal waves the naked eye can't see. The crows follow yelling their outrage. Eventually the waves glide the hawk over the horizon and into peaceful solitude.

Such pretty photos this morning. We have been seeing a lot of hawks floating high in the sky this past week.

Lovely skywatch post/photos! We get hawks too, but have an owl this week in our neighborhood :)

It was a good week, wasn't it! Today on Cape Ann, we are socked in with rain. :(

I'm digging the blue-sky hawks shot. Why? Not just because it is a fun image, but it means that the hawk migration is on! Spring is coming, I promise. (Our song sparrow is singing again.)

These images of the landscape are beautiful.

I browsed through your archives and noticed that you have a wide variety of bird sightings.

Happy birding...Thomas

Great series of skies, especially with the birds. Nobody does "outrage" better than a corvid!!

You certainly have nice sky color and there are birds in it. None around here today. I think it might be too cold.

I thought I would try SkyWatch again. Not sure how far I will get before I tire out but will give it a try.

Nice narrative as well as some gorgeous photos. And yes, the character of sunrise changes dramatically from day to day -- even minute to minute when the disc clears the horizon.

Nice shooting regardless!

I love the yellow along the trees. I sit and look at the sky when it looks like it. It is beautiful to look at.

I love the morning skies you've captured here - the colors are fantastic! I saw on your side bar, "Falcon Sightings" That's so cool - I don't think we have them here! When I was little, I remember seeing a few eagles - but not anymore! I wonder why?!!
