Great Backyard Birdcount This Weekend

The Great Backyard Bird Count is this weekend from the 13th to the 16th. Being the obsessive/compulsive type that I am, I have decided to take Friday off, to make it a 4 day marathon. At first, I thought the BBC could only be done from your house and for only 15 mintues a day. Upon further reading I realized that you can go to your favorite hot spots and bird for as long as you want!! HA!! I do this anyhow and now I can do it for science. It can't get much better than that.

So who out there will be participating? If so will you be doing it from your house or will you be adding in a field trip or two?

Happy birding all!!

I've never done the count, but I am not working this weekend, and so maybe this is the time! Hope I can count all the Pine Siskins! :c)

Like you, I will bird from my house and I'll be out and about. The GBBC is what got me out the door and birding in the first place!

Hi Kallen;

My wife and I are making it a 4 day event also. Along with backyard birds, we are going to count at some hot spots also.

Shelley, I am sure you will see a lot of wonderful birds up at the cabin including redpolls!!

Jayne, try and do it if even for one day. It will give you an excuse to just sit back and watch the birds. I bet you can count 40 siskins in 15 minutes. ;o)

Deborah, I will be posting my findings on line. Cross your fingers I find some crossbills and redpolls would you. HA

Kathie, I look forward to reading about what you see. Based on your January list, I am sure it's going to be very impressive!! ;o)

EB, thanks for the well wishes. I hope I find some birds this weekend too. The falcon sighting was my lucky break to get me out of the same bird, same day rut.

MaineBirder, I can't wait to see your pictures because they are all so nice and detailed.

My house as that is the best place...I am looking forward to it even though I just finished a very quiet 2 day count for Project Feeder Watch...

I'm definitely in. I've got several places I plan on going, in addition to counting in my own yard. I'm going to have so many stacks of paper with numbers and birding shorthand on them! I'm looking forward to it, and reading about other folks' planned participation has made me even more excited about it.
