Watery Wednesday in Central Massachusetts

A view of Riverdale pond in Grafton, Massachusetts on Sunday. The clouds continued to thicken and snow showers suddenly appeared taking away the promise of spring for the remainder of the day.
The Mute Swan photos were taken taken at the same pond on Saturday when it was sunny and warm.

Common Mergensers taking flight at Dorothy Pond in Millbury. A bunch of kids on dirt bikes were buzzing by and the entire flock on mergs took off in a panic.

I finally found the beavers who have made the dam on the Blackstone River at the Bike path in Millbury. Here is one swimming away totally oblivious that I was on a bridge taking its photo.

Right beside the beaver were two Black Ducks having a lovers lunch together. It was really funny to see how they reacted when the beaver disturbed their meal. They just looked at it swim by and it didn't cause any alarm on their behalf. I guess they all live in harmony along the Blackstone.

Kallen, what beautiful photos. I can't imagine being so close to beavers. That would be such a thrill.

Ooh, a beaver! We keep looking for them - there are dams all over the rivers here so they must be around. For now we have to 'settle' for muskrats. ;)

You are really mastering your camera! That first photo w/ the sky and water is incredible! Laughed at the 2 duck butts in the water!

That is really one big pond. Around here I would call that a lake and a beautiful one at that. The ducks are really cute. Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos.

They are all great photos, Kim.. I especially like the swans (both pictures) and the top picture. Love the sky in that picture.

Great 'watery' photos.

Even with those grey clouds looming, the pond looks quite serene. Thanks for visiting my blog. Cheers, J Bar.

I love that third photo...Shape similarity despite size discrepancy and how the shadows of the necks are fully on their bodies...and of course that last photo is great.

Thanks for all the wild life you have put up today. A lot of these animals I have never seen. Here (Australia) we have black swans, maybe white are around but I haven't seen them and of course we don't have beavers.

I like the bottoms up picture.

We were chilly yesterday in spite of the 63 degree temperature.

Today we are getting a little rain.

Carpe Diem!

Great shot of the beaver! Lucky you. It's nice to see all the critters enjoying swim time. Our creeks and rivers are unfrozen now but many of our ponds still have ice on them. Soon it'll be gone though!

Hi, Woow You saw a beaver, this is one of my dream, but I guess I will not see any in Icelamd. I love the ducks picture looking for food. It is a very funny one!!!

You have such a lot of wonderful wildlife close by. Even beavers. That must feel very special. The change between the sunny lake and the cloudy one is remarkable but the cloudy picture did show more detail and had less sharp contrast so in a sense it was the better nature photo of the water itself. Also liked very much the one with the birds taking off. That was well caught.

What big ponds you have in Massachusetts. I love the pictures of waterbirds, we don't see many of those here in the desert. My favorite is the beaver.

Pretty pictures! I saw a beaver on a nature walk two years ago; I was about six feet from it, and when I stepped even closer, it started hissing/growling at me.
