Peregrine Falcon Update-All 3 Fledged/One Slightly Injured

Quick update on the juvenile Peregrine Falcons in Worcester. All three have now fledged and are flying around downtown Worcester (close to the nest box though).

The falcon in the picture above was the one who fell from the ledge last week. She finally started flying and flew into the BankNorth building this afternoon. Emily saw the whole thing and called Mass Wildlife to have them come get her as she was on the street and stunned. The parents witnessed the entire thing but will not attempt to save their chick if it is on the ground (according to Fish & Wildlife)

Anyhow, Emily left me an email saying the Juvie Peregrine is resting comfortably and doesn't appear to have any serious injuries. They will be taking x-rays tomorrow though. Updated to add: I am guessing if the injured falcon looks okay after xrays, they will re-release her back to her parents today and the parents should accept her as one of their own. Once I hear back from Emily after she calls Tufts this morning, I will update my blog to let you all know the outcome. Cross your fingers she is okay and can go back home today.

The parents have been nervous Nellies today as well as Emily and I. I am just crossing my fingers that the falcon is okay and the others will survive as well. Very nerve wracking indeed.

Gorgeous photos! I do hope that Falcon fledging makes it - sounds like he is in good hands! sending good thoughts your way - I know you care about those falcons as much as I care about my loons!!

Do keep us updated on that poor little fledgling..what a tough start to freedom! but as Shelley, said..it looks like it is in good hands..just wonder if the parents are confused, upset or ?? Are they worried about it returning to its parents in time to be trained by Mom and Dad? I can see why your nerves are on edge..jeeze, this is like raising your own kiddos!!

I'm glad it's looking like it might be fine so far. I hate hearing about something like an injury, especially to an animal that's been watched like a pet.

Hi,
Again some nice shot of the Peregrine. It is fantastic that you do have emergency system for birds, We do not have that here. I guess the peregrine is in good hand and will recover quickly from its little accident.

Ouch! Guess that is the downside to city living, hey? So many buildings and windows to crash into while learning to navigate. Hope the baby is OK and can be reunited with mom and dad soon.
