I had robins in my yard this morning and I could tell they were coming from across the street, so I decided to brave it out and search for them. I didn't have to go too far and found about 20 of them in the field. There is tons of oriental bittersweet in this field and the robins are taking full advantage of it.
There is also a small brook nearby that has fresh, running water for them to drink out of.
I saw my first mockingbird since fall. Interestingly enough, she is in with the flock of robins. I didn't see any other mockers besides her, so I am assuming she has decided to join the robin flock for the winter.

I am glad I decided to go across the street. I had forgotten how much wild life there is over there. The coopers that frequents my yard was over there as well along with 6 crows who were stalking him.
A great way to start the week, even if we did get 10 inches of new snow!

Hi Kallen---More snow in Mass, huh??? We still haven't had any although it's 28 degrees here and cloudy...
Our Robins have disappeared --at least from our yard. AND I have yet to see a mocker... Maybe in spring...????

Interesting. You will have to give us a follow-up on the battle between the hawk and the crows. I'm betting the crows will send him packing.

I am ready for spring! I shoveled 2 feet of snow Friday, a foot Saturday, 8 - 10 inches Saturday 10:00 PM and I just went outside to see another 10 inches of snow. It is now 30 degrees though, so warming up.
I am now liking the idea of snow in the mountains but no snow in Juneau.
the predicted rain is going to make this a mess.
The birds are wanting a break too. Their normal eating place, Gastineau Channel, has ice and snow covering it, so they cannot get the critters when the tide is out.
Sounds like it was a worthwhile adventure! Wish you could share a little of that snow - we haven't had any this year. Oh well, have a good week!
Winter must make the mockingbird nicer - interesting that it was hanging out w/ the Robin!
Nice! I have a mocker on my wish list for this year. I saw one once a long time ago, so am do for another.
Yup, more snow. B and I went out snow shoeing. It was very quiet for birds in the woods. They were still hunkered down from the storm. These storms must be hard on the ground feeders. However, there seems to be lots of berries this year. Our Mockingbird was guarding his bittersweet bush.
I have never seen a Mockingbird as they are quite uncommon in Ontario, even in the summer. And Robins would be very foolish to stay here this month, though a few were reported today around Niagara Falls.

but when i was in north carolina there were huge flocks

We'll not see any robins for a couple of months, and then the yard will be full. :c)
Did you try to put out any raisins for the robins? Just soak them first and put them on a tray. Nice catch on the mockingbird...
