My Funky Pod Tree Had Lots of Visitors

The hawk was back. I do believe this is a cooper's. Can someone confirm that? He came awfully close to the house this time so I was able to get a better closeup of him. It was frustrating trying to get his photo though because I could only see him through my bathroom window. I had to contort myself and my camera at a difficult angle because he was really far away so I had to be careful and angle my camera in such a way to avoid the window pane.  HA

I did'nt see the injured junco at all yesterday and I am guessing this may be why. :o(.

A couple of pictures of the downy woodpecker on my funky tree pod tree. You can see there are still a ton of seeds on there for the finches. Even the pine siskins are eating off of it now. There's enough food here to last them throughout the winter.

A blue jay getting peanuts from the coconut feeder. This is the first time the jay has been brave enough to come to the feeding station. Usually they hang out where I give them shelled peanuts which is away from the house so I can never get a decent photo of it.

Here he is again on my tree. He does this all day scouting for peanuts and letting the other birds know when the hawk decides to make an appearance.

I' so bummed  my vacation is over with. I had such a great time this past week enjoying my backyard birds. Now it's back to the rat race when I will only be able to see the birds on the weekend.
Have a great Sunday everyone.

Those are nice pictures Kallen, I will miss your daily bird posts once you are back to work but it won't be long until daylight hangs around a little longer.

He definitely looks like a Cooper's Hawk. Susan once did a post about the differences and it helped me tremendously. You can find it at:

Love your sweet woodpeckers and the jays too!

Definitely a Coopers. Still in a somewhat low mood this a.m. then I noticed you list of songs and picked out John Denvers' I Want To Live. Now I feel better. Thanks!

It is an adult Coopers Hawk. I hope you will be able to get a closer shot of the bird.

Lovely shot of the hawk :-)

Back to work here too tomorrow, it's been great having all that time to stand at the window.

Paul.

Hey Kim, Sorry to hear that you have to go back to work.. IF I had to go back to work (after retiring in 2003) now, I don't think I could do it.

Glad you found out what the hawk is. I couldn't have helped you with that one. I just hope the little junco is not in pain anymore. How sad...

Thanks for sharing your birds with us today. You do have a perfect tree for them.
Hugs,
Betsy
