I have been looking at all of the juncos in my yard and there is one with an injured wing. I went out there with a shoe box lined with paper towels in hopes I could grab him, but he crawled away into the picker bushes.
There was a hawk here earlier and I kind of wish the hawk would have grabbed him to put him out of his misery. He was eating so I threw a bunch of bird seed under the brambles in hopes that he needs to rest it some. There is snow for him to drink, food for him to eat and enough shelter under the pickers to roost tonight.
Sadly I don't think that will make a difference and there is no way I can get him under those picker bushes.
It is very sad to see. He looks so scared and defenseless.

You are right. It's so awful to see an injured bird and not be able to do anything about it. I know it's nature's way...but so painful to watch.
Well he went back to my feeding station and I went out there again to try to grab him. I figured I would call Tufts tomorrow to see if they could mend his wing. If they couldn't than I was going to call a woman in Charlton, Massachusetts. Needless to say he ran off again.
He is starving so I put more food under the brambles for him.
It was very windy today and there are no cat paw prints in my yard (snow would tell me if there were), so I am guessing he banged into something with the wind.
I guess this goes with being a backyard bird watcher and I am going to have to get used to it.
Indeed, nature will take its course. Poor thing... so hard to see them hurt.
You have a kind heart and nature is not kind. I found an injured cedar waxwing this spring, and the Humane Society would have taken it, only to put it down.
So sad to see them suffering. It's an awfully cold and windy night out tonight too. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for the little Junco. It's difficult to see something so innocent hurt and vulnerable. At least it was trying to eat. That's a good sign.

Oh I know how sad it is seeing the little Junco. I'm sorry you couldn't get him--but maybe that's for the best. Let's just pray that he doesn't suffer. Keep us posted, Kallen.
