I am supposed to attend the CBC in Worcester this upcoming Saturday. As it stands right now, we are supposed to get a foot of snow in my area starting tomorrow and lasting into Friday night. It is going to be 18 degrees tops on Saturday with a lot of snow. The coordinator sent me an email saying it may be delayed until Sunday. On Sunday we are supposed to get snow, sleet and freezing rain. They will let me know when they decide. Either way I will attend, but the enthusiasm I had the beginning of the week is starting to fade a tad.
My feeding stations in my yard have been crazy with birds. Every morning I am out there before the sun shines filling them up and scraping ice off of them. I then go to work while it is still dark and stay until it is still dark. I have not seen a single bird since Monday morning when there was a flock of juncos eating the seed underneath my feeders. I know that the birds are there while I am at work because my bird seed is going a lot quicker than it has in the past.
Is it me or is anyone else out there longing for spring yet? I miss the birds, the sunlight and nature in general. I find that nature is my therapy and I get all moody when I can't be out there breathing the fresh air, feeling the warm sun against my face, and listening to the birds singing their precious songs.
Will blog more this weekend. Will catch up on every ones blogs tomorrow morning. I am working from home tomorrow so it will be slower paced than it has been this week.
Take care everyone.

Yes, Kallen, I was thinking today that there hasn't been much sunshine at all since I put up my feeders about 2 weeks ago! Soon, tho', the days will be getting longer and the weather will turn nice again. Hang in there!
Wish i could send you some of this North Carolina warmth...
WE are headed to Ct. on sunday for Christmas...I think we will be seeing all your snow then.
I guess i will need to bring some boots and my down coat...
Have fun on the bird count...
I am thinking the same way you are Diane. Spring will be here, I just have to be patient!
Dawn, have fun in CT!! BTW: I am trying to comment on your blog and it keeps kicking me out saying that it can't find your web site?? Weird.
Kalen, That is why I cross country ski and now snowboard. By the way, you would be great snowboarding! Standing on tip toes makes for strong calves - great snowboarder.
I actually like snow. Ice is another story though - terrible stuff.
I like to make the most of winters. I have even made 3 igloos in the past with all that snow. Snow sculptures?
Jury duty done. Guilty of stealing wire and driving away. It is kind of nerve wracking knowing that the guy is going to go to jail. Have a good Friday.
Even down here in the south--our weather is the 'pits'..... We don't have the cold weather with ice and snow---but we've got tons of fog, drizzle and totally drab conditions. SO---yes, most everyone now is probably yearning for spring.
Sorry about your CBD postponement.. Sounds like it may have to be moved to another weekend maybe.. I know you were looking forward to it--but I hope you don't have to sit quietly out in the weather you are having now. Gads!!!!
I'd love some snow for Christmas--but it probably won't happen. BUT--I don't want alot of it and I certainly don't want any ICE.
Gripe Gripe..
Hugs,
Betsy
Hey Kallen thanks for the tunes! I listened to ENYA while reading your post. Our CBC is this Sat. and the weatherman is calling for 29 degrees and chance of snow showers. Not too bad. Good luck and stay warm!
I am such a sucker for anticipation that it keeps me focused on the spring to come, and here, that means in March, so only a couple of months away. It makes me appreciate seeing the green again so much more. Hope the count works out for you Kallen!
I think the bird feeding frenzies are a weather indicator. We have had lots of them and really rotten weather the last week in Bluff Country.
Yikes, that's starting to sound like some nasty weather. Better add a little flask o' something to you backpack!! Or would that make it "BUI" - birding under the influence? I guess one has to stay sharp to tell the Downies from the Hairies, the Coopers from the Sharpies etc
Hey, Kim. This will give you an extra day to study up on the ducks! BTW, the ducks will be there, they don't care. The paserines may be hunkered down. Hope you have fun! Bring a thermos of hot chocolate.
Oh BTW, I looked out the window at 1:50 and thought the weatherman lied again. We are supposted to get the storm at 2:00. It's 2:06 and I'll be darned. It's coming down!
Hi Kallen, been thinking about you - will you get to see the birds at your feeders tomorrow? and can you tell me what a CBC is?
Warm hugs and drive safe :)
After going outside 8 times today to clean off feeders, yes I want spring right now...A foot of snow is hard to trudge through...
I find these days depressing too, when I come and go in the dark, and I have no idea what birds have been here. Weekends are always a surprise when I get to see what birds are coming to my feeders. Hope you have your bird count one way or another...we get a break tomorrow, then more snow Sunday.
I'd send you some NC warmth if I could, too Kallen. I'll be very ready for Spring in February, I guess.
I'm not patient, either :o)
Enjoy the season and don't work too hard,
Mary
Winter "officially" starts tomorrow...I think we're in for a rough ride!
CBC's are being postponed all over the place. Darn weather.
Even though you can't see it, the birds appreciate all the maintenance you do on the feeders.
Hi Kallen, I hope you were able to go birding and you got your work done. The weather in Portland, OR is crazy and getting crazier. We have 40 and 50 MPH winds along with snow.
Wish you well.
