Six Random Things about meme.

Deborah over at The Cloud Messenger tagged me to participate in the 6 Random Things about you meme craze that has hit the blogosphere and I was more than happy to comply. So here goes!

First, I walk on my toes. This started as a toddler and concerned my mother enough to take me to various specialists but nothing worked. I don't do it as much when I have shoes on, but once they are taken off, I am on my toes. I am not aware that I am doing this, it's just the way I walk. My calves are very large due to this (muscle) that I can't wear those stylish boots that hug your calf. This is just one of many strange things about me. ;o)

Two: I am a genealogy buff. I am fascinated by the past which includes history and family roots. With the help of my second cousin (who is actually a genealogist) I was able to track down some of my family history which includes relatives of mine that arrived here via the Mayflower.

I collect vintage clothing. Not so much for wearing, but for the stories behind them. I find many of them at thrift stores and they are always the unwanted items sitting on the rack collecting dust. I think of it sitting there unwanted and it makes me sad because I think of the woman who wore it at one point. Whether it be the coat that she wore to her sons graduation or the party dress she wore to her first dance, it had some special meaning to someone at one point in their lives.

This is an example of a piece of vintage clothing that I own. It is a suit from the 1940's. When I bought it I noticed that the suit jacket was stitched funny and that the arms were uneven. I showed it to an experienced vintage clothing collector and she told me the woman most likely had it sewn this way due to the fact that she had polio and had to alter all of her clothing this way. Fascinating stuff I tell you.

Four: I was an amateur body builder at one point in my life. I couldn't keep up with the vigorous training or dieting though so it's a thing of my past.

Five:I am a sugar addict. I love sweets and could eat them all day if allowed. My favorites are chocolate and ice cream. I also don't eat red meat or pork. The only meat I eat is limited chicken and turkey. I love fish, eggs and diary though, so this helps to compensate for my lack of protein.
Six: This one makes me giggle just writing about it. I am an original member of the Soul Patrol. For those of you who follow American Idol, you will remember the Soul Patrol were those fanatical fans that followed Taylor Hicks. Mind you I never liked American Idol, but was channel surfing one evening, when I came across a gray haired man who could play the harp (harmonica) really well. I was mesmerized right then and there and became addicted to the reality show. I was even part of a marketing committee for Taylor and faithfully voted for him every Tuesday night with both my home phone and texting (at the same time). On the finale night I voted for 2 hours straight using both methods and didn't stop once. By the time I was done I was exhausted and had to use the bathroom really bad. My kids thought I was crazy and my mother thought my hormones were raging out of control. I think all were right in their assumptions but it was good fun. Without a doubt one of my weirdest fads

HA! I have not watched American Idol since but I adored Taylor. You see he was the anti pop icon for American Idol. They wanted their singers to be young, attractive and singing Brittney. Taylor was none of this (in the eyes of the Hollywood establishment) and I found it refreshing. He was an odd duck of sorts and I am drawn to odd ducks who are not afraid to be themselves. He also has some incredible music he did before his American Idol days that I love. Taylor is very bluesy and I love blues music. I am such a dork that I have kept my text phone that I bought solely for voting for him as a keepsake of sorts for memory sake.

Yes I am weird...... LOL, that was even more difficult than I thought.......... Whew, I am glad it's over with.............................. Who's next???????

On to the next stage. As required, here are the rules. (copied and pasted in its entirety from the Deborah's site), including this blurb.

The rules for Six Random Facts are pretty straightforward:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.

2. Post the rules on your blog.

3. Write six random things about yourself.

4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.

5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.

6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

As you can see, I am not tagging anyone. I am leaving it open to those who want to join in on the fun. If you want to participate please do so. I have been reading others meme's and it's a lot of fun to find out things about them that you didn't know before.

LOL Kallen! Hey, we all have done crazy things, have we not? I think that's cool that you like to collect vintage clothing, and what an interesting story about that suit. A sugar addicted body builder??? :c)

I'm thinking you could've easily been a ballerina w/ the talent of walking on your toes! :-)
This was fun to read!

Neat Kallen... What a great way to learn more about you. Taylor Hicks, huh??? I liked him too. I still watch Idol (but am not addicted to it). I liked Carrie Underwood when she was on Idol--and I still like her!!!!

I am a Genealogy buff also---working hard to get my family history. It's amazing how much I have found by posting names, etc. on my blog. I've found cousins I never knew I had!!!! The only claim-to-fame in my family (so far) has been a relative who married Thomas Jefferson's sister. This relative is buried at Monticello. OH---my husband just reminded me that I am married to Robert THE Bruce also!!!! SO--guess I am 'royal.' HA HA HA

Interesting stuff! My niece has always walked on her toes too...I have never heard of another person. I work with an ex-body builder. The diet and exercise regime is not healthy, especially for a woman. I like the polio story too.

From a fellow Taylor Hick's lover.

I have his CD and still listen and I saw him in concert live at Charlotte's Bobcat Arena in August 06, right after he won :o)

Jealous?

LOL!

Jayne, my sugar addiction is one of the main reasons why I decided to stop bodybuilding. I love it too much to give up.

Shelley, I wouldn't have done too well as a ballerina, I am a huge clutz and would have killed myself. I did do it when I was younger, but that was about it. :oP

Betsy, I like Underwood as well. That is so cool about Thomas Jefferson and Robert the Bruce. That's what I love about geneaology, it's like solving a puzzle of sorts.

Ruth, I know of only one other person who walks on their toes so it's always nice to hear of more. HA! I agree about the diet not being good for women. The dieting when you are trying to put on muscle is fine, it's when you have to start cutting to shed body fat, that gets too intense. I just couldn't do it.

Mary, I am sooooooo jealous!! Did you see him at a night club?? I am telling you his original music is so good. I would go without chocolate for a month just to hear him sing The Fall live!!!! HA. I did see him during the Pop Tarts Tour, but it just wasn't the same. I have all of his CD's except for the 1st (which is out of distribution). He has a new CD coming out soon though that has his two original CD's put onto one. It is all redone too so the sound quality is going to be incredible. I can't wait. LOL!!

That was really neat to read! And now, if I ever see a toe-walking, blues- belting, sugar-buzzed geneologist with weird-fitting clothes and unzipped boots coming down the street, I'll know it's you - lol! (having done a lot of dance and other sporty things in my youth, I have the same boot problem)

Kim said...

LOL Deb!!! That would be me!!!

I am glad to hear I am not the only one w/ the boot problem. You would think the designers of boot would take into consieration some women were not blessed with slender calves! Oh well, I am more of a hiking boot gal so I guess it doesn't matter much. ;o)
