First Wild Turkeys & Now Turkey Vultures

Pardon the lousy pictures. It was gray, foggy and misty this morning so good pictures were rather difficult.
I went outside this morning to give the Blue Jays and the squirrels their daily dose of shelled peanuts and happened to look across the street to see two large birds perched on a smokestack. I ran into my house like a mad woman, grabbed my camera, than my batteries, and ran out the door. I booked across the street to figure out who the mysterious birds were. It was a gray, foggy morning and there I was with my camera huffing and puffing from the marathon sprint.

I tried to focus on the birds but it was so hard due to the fog and also due to the fact that it is challenging to take photos after running because your adrenalin is pumped and your body has to adjust to a period of complete stillness to get the photo.

The Turkey Vultures sat there for about 5 minutes just looking around and it was so fun to see. I have never seen a TV perched before and am so used to seeing them soar in the sky so the stillness was a new experience for me.

Finally they took into the woods and the fog. It was a great way to start a work day! I am so glad to see these birds again after the long winter we had. You just have to love spring!

Turkey Vultures are popping up all over the blogs! Thanks for sprinting to get those pix to share with us.

I loves me some Turkey Vultures!

Lynne! When I saw your blog this afternoon I thought the same thing! They are such cool birds!

...how cool to have them perching across the street from your house...very "Munsteresque" ;-)

Great pictures, Kim, of the Turkey Vultures. I love seeing them with out-stretched wings...

Ha! I love how you "sprinted' across the street to get the pics.. I've never seen these kind of birds but we do have turkeys around here. I don't see them often though. They stay up over the hill in a farmers field most the time. I only take photos from my windows but now and then I see a bunch of them. I'd hate to see a vulture coming down to get one. Great photos on your blog!!

Kim,
I know how you must have felt when you see something you want to capture with your camera and you have to run to get there...but you did a great job capturing these guys...Those tvs are lovely to watch soar..funny you and lynne posted about tvs at same time!!

Cool shots. Forget the focus in that kind of weather. These turned out really well. They are turkey vultures that I see floating, effortlessly, around our small city. Now and then. They seem to float everywhere except over my head so I never get a photo like you got. Nice work.

They have a face only a mother could love, but they are really such cool birds!

I think you did a very good job of capturing the images considering the conditions.

You explained perfectly what I call the "dart and shot".

You are going to have to change the name of your blog. You are WAY more than a Kitchen Window Birder.

Be careful running with camera. It's akin to running with scissors.

I've seen just a couple TVs back in Minnesota this spring. How neat you were able to capture shots of them sitting still (I usually only see them flying).

I looooooove to watch these guys fly. Just saw our first ones of the year earlier this week. More signs of spring!
