I was going to post this tomorrow but decided to post tonight just in case I have readers in my area who want to go check out St. Phillips in Grafton tomorrow as there were a lot of birds there.
I went birding for a while this evening before dusk and saw the Pileated Woodpecker I have been searching for this past week or so. He was over near the Northern Flickers who have arrived at St. Phillips in a small flock that I saw today. I was concerned he was moving from his favorite spot, but sure enough there he was hollering and drilling away.
My first Chipping Sparrow of the year taken during my lunch hour. I miss these little birds and love the little song they make as they search for food.
A Palm Warbler at St. Phillips (LIFER!). Pictures were impossible due to the position of the sun and also the fact that he was over the fence and I was behind it and there was no way I could get over that fence without scaring him off. I took these pictures as a record shot. You can still notice that glorious rusty crown of his despite the condition of the picture.
Side shot of this adorable little bird. One thing I have noticed these past couple of days is that the warblers I have encountered recently are not that shy. I thought they were going to be impossible to see due to their size, the fact that they like to perch high up in trees and their shyness but so far this has not been the case. This warbler did in fact notice me but paid no attention as he went about his business. Very cool.

You certainly have had a full day. I love all the pictures but especially the woodpecker.
Wow! Really like the pileated shot. His feathers seem to be standing on end, and congrats on the Palm Warbler. I hope to see one this spring also. Nice Chipping Sparrow photo. I too like hearing them as they fly around my yard!!
That woodpecker is great! I love the red crest. The little yellow bird is cool too. I always find that color odd for a bird this far north for some reason.
What a great shot of the Pileated!! I wish mine would come closer. I can never catch him but I hear him. Great photos!!
Yeah! Palm warblers. I heard my first Chipping Sparrow on the Cape Ann today.
Kim,
Congrats on the Palm Warbler! I love that they are always flicking their tail feathers...
Great photos again!
Great Bird!
Great pictures Kim. Glad you got to see another LIFER... You need to make us a long list of all of the birds you have seen.... WOW!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
I love the way those feathers stand up on the woodpeckers head. The other birds were pretty also. Helen
Love the Pileated Woodpecker, that's one cool hair style!
Lucky you, getting to see the Palm Warbler!! And, I so love your Pileated and am so jealous he hangs around for you. :c)
I love the shot of the Pileated Woodpecker. Such a magnificent bird and one I lust after. LOL I have only seen on in 47 years.
A friend of mine sees two at his suet feeder all year long. His suet feeder is home made and holds four suet cakes and is covered by hardware mesh and is flat and about 14 to 16 inches square. Nailed on a post. The Pileated Woodpeckers love it I guess.
I like your other bird photos too.
I try to do some things that are inspirational in some way. Not always successful. Gobsmacks
Congrats on the lifer. I saw my first Palm last spring.
I love the pics of the Woodpecker and the Sparrow Kim, also the lovely Daff.
Love the pileated! Looks like he has a red mohawk! I've had about 3 pair of chipping sparrows hanging around here. They are one of the prettier sparrows. Congrats on the lifer! I see so few warblers. I need to find out where to go to find them. They don't come to my house very often.
That funky Pileated is sure a terrific capture. Would make a great avatar, too!!
Kim,
It's great you were able to get those shots of the palm warbler..I saw my first p.w. last week...but from a longer distance..so no pics :(
Love your pic of the pileated..a tough birdee to capture, I think!
I'd really like to see a Palm Warbler!
Kim -WOW great photos - I thought about going after work but did not - wish I did - I never seem to be able to spot the warblers.
Thanks for the pictures.
Oh Congrats, congrats on the lifer! You are birding at breakneck speed!
Congratulations, Kim! I do believe your life list is longer than mine. You sure do get out and about! Love the Pileated photo. Wow.
Glad to see another photo of the pileated woodpecker, as it's also a favorite of mine!
Congrats on the palm warbler! you are really racking up your lifer birds! The pileated shot was wonderful!
