An Evening of Birding

Quick post and run tonight. It has been crazy at work and I have to get in early tomorrow but wanted to upload these photos just in case I can't get to them tomorrow. I went to the cemetery before meeting up with other birders tonight and was able to get better photos of the Palm Warbler.

Here he is looking for insects I am guessing.

Cleaning his feathers in this shot. So cute!

And here he is grooming himself. Check out the black on his belly. Very attractive bird and makes me all the more eager to see more warblers this spring.

We went to a place in a town nearby to check on some nesting Ospreys and a crow flew by and I was able to get a pretty good shot of him as he flew past my head.

I was able to see my first Osprey this evening (LIFER)! Here she is going back to her nest. The nest is HUGE!

Very rough digiscope of her in her nest. For some reason I couldn't get a decent digiscope photo of her so I am treating this purely as a picture of record. Check out those eyes and that beak though!

We went to another town to look for Woodcock and while we were there this American Kestrel flew by (LIFER!!). Such a gorgeous bird and I wish it would have come a little closer so I could have gotten better photos.

Here it is perched in a tree. Considering Kestrels are becoming more rare around New England, I feel very privileged to have seen this bird with my own two eyes.

Finally a lovely sunset. There were quite a few Woodcock this evening and it was so cool to listen to them peenting. It was still rather light outside so we were also able to get some good views of them flying in the air.

Quite a productive day of birding considering I didn't even begin until 5:15 tonight. Who says the early bird always gets the worm. ;o)

Peace all. I will catch up on all of your blogs tomorrow evening after work!

Ospreys are one of my favorites. They are so neat to see sitting on a nest, and yes they have huge nests! That Palm Warbler is giving you great looks - great photos! And it looks like your weather has picked up, too! Don't work too hard tomorrow. :o)

I really like the palm warbler. I like the look of the yellow birds. This one looks almost golden in some of the pictures. I've been getting a nice bird education reading all of this.

That Palm Warbler is beautiful. We used to see Ospreys hunting fish on the waters we fished at. On another body of water we fished we saw eagles flying over and even found their huge nest and saw one of them sitting on it. It stood up in the deep dest and wathed us sitting in the boat. Digital cameras were not in back then. Great assortment of pictures you got so late. Helen

Hi Kim, your Palm Warbler is so pretty and what a fruitful evenings birding you had.

Our Royal Society for the Protection of Birds are currently showing live streaming from a webcam in Scotland of an Osprey's nest which is fascinating to watch. Loved the sunset photo also.
If you want to have a peek at the webcam just copy and paste the following into your address bar. Not sure what the time difference is between us though.

I love seeing Kestrels. I always see them in Florida, perching on telephone lines beside the road.

Great shots Kim!! I can't wait to see more of that big bird in it's nest!! I never see any warblers. Maybe I should drive to a cemetary and just see what birds I can see for a day..LOL At least it's nice and quiet there.

Isn't that Palm Warbler adorable?!
I've seen ospreys fishing at the family cottage and have caught a glimpse of a bald eagle just once. So much majesty and little jewels as well in the skies.
