We are supposed to get 8 inches of snow today and my bird station is booming. I had a whole bunch of robins in my yard on the privet tree. I am sad to report that I don't have that many berries anymore because those darn starlings have eaten most of them. I am hoping my holly gets bigger next year so the robins can eat that. I am also planning on spending a little more money this spring to get some well established berry producing shrubs into my yard for winter feeding for berry eating birds.
In the past, I always associated robins with spring. I never paid much attention to the birds but my eyes were always open for robins come March because I couldn't bear another day of winter. Now that I am more informed on bird behaviour, I know that some robins do in fact stick around Massachusetts for the winter. I just feel badly that I can't provide them with food that they will eat. They are a pleasant sight to see though. I can't get a good picture of them because the privet tree is far away from my kitchen window and I can't get close enough to them for a decent picture.I will post more pictures this week. I took a ton of photos but want to save some for future posts.

Hi Kallen, I notice that there are alot of birds at my feeders right before a storm... Today it's sunny and cool here--and not too many birds around (except for our zillion Pine Siskins!!! ha

Great idea, berry bushes. I think it would be fun figuring out the right ones for the birds you get (or want) with the bushes that do well in your location! Keep us posted (literally, lol!) I'm thinking of some holly for my yard.
It does seem like the feeders are busiest right before a storm - and the birdies know to stock up! I bet those Robins will enjoy your heated bird bath! They were some of my best customers last winter!
Shelley I would love for them to get a chance to get into the bird bath. They don't stand a chance with these awful starlings! They and the house sparrows have completely taken over my bird feeding station today and I am furious.
The starlings crapped in the bird bath and I had to go out there to clean it up. They are now going to town with my suet. Seriously, I wish there was a company I could pay that would get rid of these buggers for me. They are bullies, filthy and constantly eating. I am beside myself.

Nice blog, and interesting to see many of the same things from central Mass as in southern Vermont. Robins yesterday were "feeder birds" working away at old apple - maybe fermented apples! A lot of birds prefer crab apples, but those are gone and they are after the apples.

You can put out fruit for the robins. Take some raisins and soften them up in hot water and put them out in a dish and the robins will take them. You could also put out frozen blueberries that are thawed..
